The following email scams were reported to the Electronic Messaging Compliance Unit. Links to scam web pages have been removed and spaces have been added to email addresses to ensure they do not become hyperlinks.
Lottery scam
You have been selected and awarded with a cash prize of 800,000.00 from Adrian Gillian Bayford. viewlink: [Link Removed] and come back for details.
While the news item and details of the lottery winners appear real, scammers are playing on the news to assist them in undertaking the scam. Once communication is undertaken with the scammers, the scammers will ask for personal identification information, and request the victim to pay approximately $650 NZD to pay for shipping from India. The scammers request that payment is made through Western Union.
