Spam warning
2 May 2013
Internal Affairs warned today of scam emails circulating that suggest they come from government department websites, including newzealand.govt.nz.
The emails contain a malicious attachment which, if opened, could harm computers or compromise a person’s privacy, including identity theft. They are a variation of previously reported scams where the attachment contains a bogus invoice or falsely offers tax or other refunds.
‘Newzealand.govt.nz’ does not send out emails to the public. The Department advises people not to open suspicious emails or click the attachments. People should report the email to the Department of Internal Affairs’ Anti-spam unit.
