First community exposures from border-related Omicron case
The case is a recent international arrival who returned a positive result on day nine of their self-isolation period. They had previously returned three negative tests for COVID-19 while completing 7 days of managed isolation at a facility in Auckland.
To date, a number of close contacts have been identified and those tested have returned negative test result for COVID-19. They are currently isolating. Public Health are in the process of identifying and contacting all other known close contacts, and ensuring they also isolate and get tested.
The Ministry of Health has also confirmed there is a second Omicron case who has been in the community. At this stage, there are no known locations of interest.
Alert level shifts to occur as announced on 13 December
From 11:59pm on Thursday, 30 December, the following regions will move to Orange: Auckland, Taupō, Rotorua Lakes, Kawerau, Whakatane, Ōpōtiki, Gisborne, Wairoa, Rangitikei, Whanganui and Ruapehu districts.
Northland will remain at Red.
The traffic light map will be updated from 11:59pm on 30 December 2021.
The next review will be in the week of 17 January 2022.

Information on current cases, COVID-19 test sites and economic support
There are 60 new cases of COVID-19 in the community today. Of these cases 20 are in Auckland, 28 in Waikato, 8 in Bay of Plenty, 1 in Northland, 1 in Rotorua, 1 in Tairāwhiti, and 1 in Canterbury.
