Key relationships
The following diagram identifies a range of our key relationships. Many of the relationships are informal and, at both the public sector level and stakeholder level, serve to produce better services to the public.
Joint Outcomes with other agencies
Border Sector shared outcomes
Government border sector agencies (the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Ministry for Primary Industries, Ministry of Transport, New Zealand Customs Service and Internal Affairs) have been working together since 2007 under the auspices of the Border Sector Governance Group to create a more integrated and responsive border management system. The Ministry for Primary Industries is the Chair of this group.
Strong border management generates value for New Zealand, and managing the border is complex as trade and travel patterns are changing and growing. The New Zealand Customs Service, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Ministry for Primary Industries are looking at what further improvements the border sector can make to support New Zealand’s economic growth strategy. The “Future Directions for the Border Sector” work programme will look at options for how the border agencies can operate together more effectively.
The goals of the work are to make travel and trade easier, improve the efficiency of border services, and ensure border security and biosecurity protection are maintained or enhanced. It builds on other joint initiatives carried out over the last few years to enhance sharing of information and targeting of risk at the border. It is also consistent with wider government initiatives and efforts to deliver better public services more efficiently.
Collecting and preserving art, culture and documentary heritage
Internal Affairs, through the National Library of New Zealand and Archives New Zealand, is committed to working with the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in areas of mutual interest. These institutions share a common responsibility for the collection, preservation and provision of access to the nation’s art, culture and heritage collections.
The Department will continue to work collaboratively with Te Papa Tongarewa to achieve a joint understanding of the needs of users, improve sharing of standards and interoperability and support each other in developing shared capability.
