An $850,000 pool of government funding to subsidise the neutering of dogs classified as menacing is part of the national action plan to reduce the risk and harm of dog attacks announced in late 2016.
Grants have been provided to councils to offer subsidised neutering in their districts.
As at 20 July 2018, the Department of Internal Affairs has approved grants for thirty-four councils. The Department does not intend to provide any further grants as the funding has been expended.
The table below shows the progress of the nationwide neutering campaign as at 20 July 2018. Please note the following regarding the figures below:
- The figures do not account for dogs that have been booked for a neutering operation but have not yet had the procedure.
