Cost of the visit of His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge to New Zealand in April 2019
A primary objective of the Duke of Cambridge’s visit to New Zealand in April 2019 was to show support to local and national communities in the aftermath of the Christchurch attacks on March 15.
Due to the exceptional nature of the circumstance, there was a very short planning period, unlike the usual long lead-in time for planning a Royal Tour. Therefore, the ceremonial aspect of the visit was reduced to allow more time for His Royal Highness to spend with the Muslim community and families in Christchurch.
As a result, the two-day visit incurred relatively lower costs than a typical Royal Visit. The total cost was $301,082.
A breakdown of costs incurred by the Department of Internal Affairs is detailed below:
Personnel | $86,819 |
International Travel | $83,941 |
Domestic Travel | $19,142 |
Accommodation, Meals and Other Travel Related Costs | $33,973 |

Total | $301,082 |
