State sector telecommunications agreement signed

1 July 2009

The Department of Internal Affairs has announced agreement with Datacraft (NZ) Limited for the provision of telecommunications services to state sector agencies. Internal Affairs today takes on responsibility for Government Technology Services from State Services Commission (SSC).

Datacraft is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dimension Data, a global US$4.5 billion IT solutions and services provider. Datacraft operates in over 50 offices in 13 Asia Pacific countries.

Agencies are free to opt in to the IT networking services to be provided by Datacraft, but are not required to do so. Datacraft will brand the services as ‘one.govt’. ‘One’ is an acronym for ‘open network environment’.

The arrangement will replace services formerly provided to a number of state sector agencies by the SSC.

Datacraft was selected after a competitive RFP (Request for Proposal) process, and today signed the agreement with Internal Affairs as the lead agency.

Stephen Crombie, General Manager Information and Communications Technology Department of Internal Affairs, says the agreement is expected to result in a significant saving for the taxpayer in the years ahead.

“The RFP process showed that the private sector is well able to provide services to the level of reliability and security required by the state sector agencies involved, and we are particularly pleased at Datacraft’s commitment to improving its services.”

Robin Hartendorp, Managing Director, Datacraft, says their focus will be on delivery – our approach is to keep it simple, transparent and scalable.

“We are committed to delivering the best services and products to Government at the best prices in the industry. The service will be called one.govt, which indicates the goal of providing a connected government network that will serve the country as a single entity,” says Robin Hartendrop.
