Reminder: Daylight saving starts this weekend

19 September 2011

New Zealand daylight saving begins next Sunday, 25 September 2011, when clocks go forward an hour at 2.00 am to become 3.00 am. The extra hour of daylight in the evenings will run till Sunday 1 April 2012, when clocks go back an hour at 3.00 am to 2.00 am.

Three Rugby World Cup matches are scheduled for Sunday 25 September. Fans planning to watch the games could miss the kickoffs if they forget to adjust their watches. Fiji v Samoa is at 3.30pm in Auckland, Ireland v Russia at 6.00pm in Rotorua and Argentina v Scotland at 8.30pm in Wellington.

People may find it convenient to advance their clocks by one hour before going to bed on Saturday 24 September.

The change to daylight saving is also an opportune time for residents to check their household emergency plans, survival kits and home smoke alarms.
