NOTE: This is an historical archived document. The information is no longer current.

Applications to the Community Organisation Grants Scheme (COGS) close 28 July 2006.

COGS Local Distribution Committees urge groups wanting to submit their applications for COGS funding to do so now as time is running out for this year’s funding round.

COGS provides essential support to not-for-profit, voluntary and community organisations. Every year over $11.4 million in Government funding administered by the Department of Internal Affairs is distributed to more than 3000 community groups. Thirty-seven Local Distribution Committees, made up entirely of volunteers, make decisions on grant applications from their local communities.

Most COGS grants are $3000 or less, and allow small community groups to pay their ongoing running costs such as rent, travel, volunteers’ expenses and administration, or to host hui, fono, training wananga and community forums.

COGS funding priorities are:

  • projects responding to a locally identified community need
  • community groups and organisations with limited access to other government funding
  • projects or services initiated by local community groups and organisations
  • projects or organisations working with one or more COGS priority sectors (Maori communities, women, Pacific Island communities, other ethnic and migrant communities, older people/seniors, youth and children, family/whänau, people with disabilities, and unemployed people).

Applications for COGS funding can be made online at www.cdgo.govt.nz or you can request a paper based application form by contacting the Local Government & Community Branch of the Department of Internal Affairs on freephone 0800 824 824.
