First Public Meeting for Inquiry into Police Conduct

19/03/2004

The Commission of Inquiry into Police Conduct will hold its first public meeting in Wellington on Monday, 22 March 2004.

The meeting is primarily to outline processes and procedures for the Inquiry over the coming months.

The Government has set up the Commission to inquire into police conduct and procedure when receiving and investigating allegations of sexual assault made against members of the Police or their associates. The Commission will also inquire into police standards and codes in relation to police personal behaviour, including sexual conduct.

The Commission had called for requests for registrations of interest, and submissions, which are currently being assessed against the terms of reference for the Inquiry. The Commission is still accepting registrations of interest.

More information on the Commission, including the terms of reference, can be found at: www.cipc.govt.nz

The Commissioners are Justice Bruce Robertson and Dame Margaret Bazley.

An Executive Officer for the Commission has been appointed. She is Rebecca Boyack, who has significant public sector work experience. As partner at KPMG Management Consulting in the 1990s, she was responsible for KPMG's public sector consulting practice. More recently she has been an independent consultant for a variety of government and state sector agencies.

The first public meeting will be held on 22 March at:
