Applications are now open for the Community Internship Programme (CIP), which provides grants for highly skilled professionals and their employers to lend a hand to community organisations. Interns are ‘loaned out’ from their full-time employers to undertake capacity-building projects in community organisations during three to six month internships.

This year’s funding round has allocated $268,000 for nine internships, each the equivalent of six months’ full time employment.

The programme aims to build the capacity of community groups and strengthen relationships between the public and private sectors, by offering professionals a community alternative to secondment or sabbatical.

The Marlborough Group of Riding for the Disabled (MRDA) is currently hosting intern Paul Shipley, who is a volunteer for Blenheim’s Specific Learning Disabilities Association. Paul will strengthen MRDA’s business management systems, and help plan for sustainable future management. He will also explore new funding sources and services for the organisation.

The closing date for the upcoming CIP funding round is 12 October 2006. For information on applying to the CIP, visit Community Internship Programme or call 0800 824 824.
