Te Runanga O Ngati Waewae was awarded a CIP internship last year. Heavily reliant on volunteer support, the Runanga’s West Coast location isolates it from many of the resource-sharing benefits to which other organisations have access. Intern Miranda Barr from Opus International Consultants offered an outside perspective and is providing support and focus to the Runanga’s projects.

Miranda is meeting with many paid and volunteer staff and committees to discuss their development goals and personal aspirations. She is helping them to identify areas for improvement, and come up with practical actions to help progress their personal objectives.

Te Runanga O Ngati Waewae is involved in many projects, including building a new marae at Arahura – only the second marae to be built on the Coast in 140 years. The CIP-funded internship is helping to strengthen all the Runanga’s projects by enhancing existing staff’s contribution to the organisation.

The closing date for the upcoming CIP funding round is 12 October 2006. For information on applying to the CIP, visit the Department of Internal Affairs website at: Community Internship Programme, or call 0800 824 824.
