Media Advisory - Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission Interim Report to be handed over to Government


The Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission – Te Komihana Rūwhenua a te Karauna – will present its interim report to the Governor General of New Zealand on 10 October 2011. The interim report will include interim recommendations that will assist decision-making for rebuilding and repair work as part of the earthquake recovery effort. It does not deal with specific buildings that caused loss of life.

The report will then be handed over to the Acting Chief Executive of Internal Affairs, From there, the Chief Executive will deliver the report to the Minister responsible – in this case ­– the Attorney General who receives it on behalf of the Government.

The timing of the release will be announced by the Government on or after 11 October. It is the Government’s decision as to how and when to release the report. It can be released on its own or with a government response. The Department of Internal Affairs cannot comment on or confirm the likely time for release of the report.
