Applications are now open for the Community Internship Programme (CIP), which provides grants for highly skilled professionals and their employers to lend a hand to community organisations. Interns are ‘loaned out’ from their full-time employers to undertake capacity-building projects in community organisations during three to six month internships.

This year’s funding round has allocated $268,000 for nine internships, each the equivalent of six months’ full time employment.

The programme aims to build the capacity of community groups and strengthen relationships between the public and private sectors, by offering professionals a community alternative to secondment or sabbatical.

The Otago Pacific People’s Trust is currently hosting intern Elizabeth McColl, the self-employed director of Simply Families. Elizabeth is developing policies, procedures and systems, as well as mentoring and training the Trust’s staff. The internship is strengthening the relationship between the Trust and Simply Families, while raising awareness of Pacific and migrant community issues.

The closing date for the upcoming CIP funding round is 12 October 2006. For information on applying to the CIP, visit Community Internship Programme, or call 0800 824 824.
