RealMe hits magic half million mark
28 September 2018
Whether it’s getting a birth certificate, applying for a bank account or replacing a driver’s licence, more than 500,000 kiwis now know it’s easier to do so with a RealMe verified identity.
The online identity verification service hit the magic half million mark this month, five years after the service was launched.
“As government and the private sector make the service available in more ways, more people are seeing how it can make some of those application processes easier,” says Maria Robertson, Deputy Chief Executive of Service Delivery and Operations.
Over the past two years all the major trading banks have signed up to the service (the final bank is in the process of completing its integration with RealMe) so customers can apply for a bank account online or re-verify their identity with the bank.
Other major uses include being able to prove who you are when applying for a student loan, enabling easier tertiary education enrolments, replacing a driver licence, enrolling to vote and ordering birth, death or marriage certificates.
RealMe is also working with the education sector to enable easier tertiary education enrolments, and making it easier to apply for a RealMe verified identity by letting users take their own photos.
