Daylight saving begins this weekend

24/09/2007

New Zealand daylight saving begins a week earlier this year, on Sunday 30 September 2007, when 2.00 am becomes 3.00 am.

This is the first change to daylight saving since 1990 and the extra hour of daylight in the evenings will run till Sunday 6 April 2008, instead of the usual third Sunday in March.

As well as altering clocks, the change to Daylight Saving is an opportune time for people to check their household emergency plans and survival kits and home smoke alarms.

People may find it convenient to advance their clocks by one hour before going to bed on Saturday 29 September.
