NOTE: This is an historical archived document. The information is no longer current.

The Department of Internal Affairs Community Internship Programme is seeking candidates ready to exchange skills and knowledge with a suitable community group.

The programme is a skill-sharing and capacity-building scheme which provides grants for placing experienced and skilled people from the public, private, community and voluntary sectors on short or medium term internships with host community organisations.

The main goals of the Community Internship Programme are capacity and relationship building. These are achieved in three key ways.

Firstly, by importing new, and otherwise inaccessible, skills and knowledge to the host community organisation, leaving the organisation stronger and more effective as a result of the internship.

Secondly, by providing the intern with the opportunity to gather new experiences, build new networks and gain a new community perspective.

And finally, by enabling the intern’s home organisation to draw on the broadened experience, renewed energy and new ideas of the intern; thereby completing the circle of benefit between the three parties.

Applications for 2004-2005 close on Friday 17 September 2004
