The Te Iwi O Ngati Tukorehe Trust outside of Levin was awarded a CIP internship last year. The Trust works to promote the self-sustainability and development of the iwi; so it was fitting that intern Tina Wehipeihana-Wilson was an iwi member.

Through the internship, Tina is working to strengthen the financial systems and processes of the Trust. By working closely with staff from the ground level up, Tina is using a hands-on approach to build the Trust’s financial management capacity.

Fiona Kamareira, the general manager of the Trust, said Tina’s help had been invaluable. “Without funding from the Community Internship Programme, we wouldn’t have been able to afford the level of expertise and professional skill that Tina has brought to the Trust.”

“As well as developing a positive relationship between the Trust and Tina’s regular employer, Temcorp, this internship has given Tina an opportunity to actively participate in and contribute to her iwi’s development.”

The closing date for the upcoming CIP funding round is 12 October 2006. For information on applying to the CIP, visit the Department of Internal Affairs website at: Community Internship Programme, or call 0800 824 824.
