Final report of the Government Inquiry into the Appointment Process for a Deputy Commissioner of Police

This information is released by the Minister of State Services, the Hon Chris Hipkins.
The Department of Internal Affairs has redacted references to the identifiable information and other details from the document following a comprehensive due diligence process to protect the privacy of those concerned in this Inquiry and to protect and maintain legal professional privilege. Most, however, are in the appendices that relate to Operation Austin content, and this was withheld by New Zealand Police.
In releasing this information, the Department of Internal Affairs has taken into account the public interest in making the information public.

The Department of Internal Affairs, on behalf of the Minister of State Services, the Hon Chris Hipkins, published the final report of the Government Inquiry into the Appointment Process for a Deputy Commissioner of Police. At the time we redacted Appendix E as it related to the Independent Police Conduct Authority investigation into complaints about Deputy Commissioner Wallace Haumaha.
Now that the Independent Police Conduct Authority has released its findings, it is appropriate to release Appendix E. Note that, where appropriate, the Department continues to redact references to identifiable information to protect the privacy of those concerned in this Inquiry.
Background
The Government Inquiry into the Appointment Process for a Deputy Commissioner of Police Uiui Kāwanatanga mō te Tukanga Whakatū I tētaki Kaikōmihana Tuarua o Ngā Pirihimana is an independent inquiry commencing on 20 August 2018.
